What do you get when you add up a maxi, shirt-dress, a floral border print and a button up? Clue: It doesn't come from your Nan's wardrobe!
Although maxi, shirt-dresses may have been niche to the ultra-conservative at one point, add a slit here and a retro print there and you're left with something on that lovely balancing line between classy and naughty.

Move over Macklemore, there's a new fashionista after grandma's hand-me-downs!
Whether taking inspiration from the classic, post-war, 1940s styles, or rocking a more Woodstock vibe, the maxi shirt dress is a blast from the past that I am more than happy to see.
I got my first maxi dress hit via this lush, boho-print She In*dress. Now I am hooked. The print combinationgives it that Nomadic feel; it could blend into a Moroccan or Mediterranean landscape equally. If I can't literally go on an around the world trip, at least I can wear one.
The long sleeves and classic button-front style are cleverly juxtaposed by the double thigh-high slits. Just watch keep an eye on that wind! One huge gust the wrong way and the whole beach could be blinded by the sight of your butt cheeks. Eeek!
These photographs were taken in Mission Beach, Queensland. Jake and I went for a weekend away as a bit of a Birthday treat to numb the pain of on-setting granny-ness. If you want silent palm-fringed beaches and tropical islands just a stone throw away, this one's for you!

P.S. My addiction to maxi shirt dresses will result in an entire style post dedicated to them. Stay tuned!
