There's something about Hamilton Island that is so magically detached from the stress and craziness of everyday life. Mad traffic jams and horns are replaced with giggles from golf buggies and angry locals are switched with friendly smiles. Although this island is only 32KM off Queensland's Airlie Beach, it is obvious that you have entered island time as soon as you set foot on the yacht-fringed harbor.
With my parents visiting from the UK, I had to take them to my personal version of paradise. And if you are an Aussie resident or considering a trip Down Under, I seriously suggest that you pay this stunning utopia a visit.
When you do visit (which you will ;) here is what you have to do in Hamilton Island:
Sunset Cocktails At One Tree Hill
Holidays are made for cocktails and at Hamilton Island, they come with a free sunset. We loved spending our nights at One Tree Hill, Hamilton Island's highest points. With endless views of the Whitsunday Islands, it's the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail from the nearby bar.
Explore Coral Cove
The main beach Catseye Beach, is the perfect place for watersports and snorkeling, but the quiet serenity of Coral Cove is the ultimate find!
Although you will have to endure a sweaty 40 minute walk, the prize at the end is well, priceless! Although Hamilton Island has a number of walking tracks, this is the one to do!
Whitehaven Beach
You probably recognise the dreamy, swirls of beach in the photos above. Whitehaven Beach is often voted the most beautiful beach in the world.
This was my third time visiting Whitehaven and I was like 'honey, I'm home!'. Just a short cruise from Hamilton Island, this serene white beach stretches for 7KM of heaven before revealing a it's best kept secret: Hill Inlet! The inlet is a dreamy swirl of turquoise and snow-white sand and is officially the most photographed beach in Australia.
Our tour took on us on a short hike up to the Hill Inlet look out, which ensured my parents were able to see that oh-my-gosh-heart-eyes view for themselves!
After indulging the absolute shangri-la of views, we headed down to Betty's Beach to walk on sand as soft as icing sugar.
This time, I needed to up my mermaid game, so I washed my hair with the pristine sand and even brushed my teeth with it! Apparently it's good for them...
Chill In The Resort Pools
Holidays are made for chilling and Catesye Beach is home to three dreamy resort pools that are just waiting for you to chill in! I personally recommend the pina coladas at the swim up bar- they come in a real coconut!
Scenic Flight Over Whitehaven Beach & Heart Reef
For such a travel-lover, you will be surprised to hear that planes are not exactly my favorite things! However, this scenic flight over the Whitsundays was actually indescribable!
On a plane with only six people, we flew directly over The Great Barrier Reef and The Whitsunday Islands. Although I have snorkeled this wonder many times, it is a whole different kind of magic from above. The ultimate highlight has to be passing over the sublime heart reef, which I had wanted to see for forever.
We then got to see the majestic Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet from the air. It was indescribable! Funnily enough, it made me crave a mr whippy icecream. I'll always be a fatty at heart!
Here's a little taste of my trip:
Goodbye paradise, I'll be back one day!
