Personal style stereotypes, we've all heard of them. From the perfectly polished babe who only wears body-con and cleavage flashers, to the bearded hipster who laughs in the name of anything that isn't vintage.

Rather than concentrate on fitting into some sort of group, personal style is all about being you.

Being a blogger, I know all how hard it is to not fall into this 'branded' image of yourself. Since we were little girls, we have been trying to force ourselves into a mold; trying to figure out whether we were Baby Spice or Sporty Spice.

Why not be both?

Today, I'm going to discuss what it means to have an eclectic personal style and give you some of my top tips on how to avoid the style stereotype funnel.

This post was inspired by something odd. On several posts where I haven't worn bright colours or prints, such as this minimalist look, I have found myself apologizing.

Sure, I love my prints, as a matter of fact, in a previous on personal style, I literally labelled myself as having 'bohemian style'.

Although strong colours, prints textures and beach vibes continue to dominate my wardrobe, as I get older, I do enjoy a more minimalist look too. I found myself laughing at how ridiculous that was and that I'd somehow transcended this 'branded image' of myself I'd created.

Sure, fashion is great if you have something to identify with, but it's all about being comfortable in your own skin. Long story short: don't let your own self-categorizations define you.

My Personal Style Tips

Avoid the style stereotype trap with a few personal style tips...

Wear What You Love

Who cares if you don't 'identify' as a rock chick. If that ACDC tee calls your name, you rock it! Don't be afraid to mix up different styles to give pieces your own twist. Band tees and pencil skirts can be surprisingly sexy together!

Take Risks

Just because you always wear monochrome doesn't mean you have to resist that oh-so-pretty coral top. Take yourself out of your comfort zone and have fun with fashion, it is a form of art after all.

Note to self: use this as an excuse when shopping!

Juxtapose

Although your top may scream 'Woodstock', matching it with something completely contrasting, such as a blazer is what makes an outfit interesting.

When considering your personal style, don't stick to one 'category', just put together pieces you truly love and that's when the magic happens!

Accessorize

Statement jewellery can make any outfit instantly more unique. Whether you're a fan of statement earrings, or you feel lost without that dainty pendant, find jewellery that reflects you as a person and work it into your personal style.

Although one style may reflect you, mix it up a little, have fun and get that personal style on point!
